Ah…the panic attack. The sneaky little bastard. First, you’re fine and dandy, then…WAM you’re hit upside the head with a mental freakout! Maybe a movie scene triggered it, maybe your bank account, maybe a snide remark. A thousand different little reasons can set off panic attacks and let me tell you, it’s not fun!
When the tears come, breathing gets hard, and you’re in freakout mode, how do we remedy the situation with Reiki?
It’s going to be different for everyone. For some, just laying your Reiki hands on your body (perhaps the heart chakra for starters) will help immediately. For others more intensive actions need to happen.
First and foremost, you need to get away from your trigger! If it’s self induced, like mind chatter, then strap some headphones to your head and drown that crap out. Binaural beats or good meditation music keep your thoughts distracted. Don’t worry, we aren’t pushing away the feelings, we are going to analyze them when we are calm.
Now that your trigger is gone, let’s clear your energies. If you’re a level 2, draw a giant CKR in front of you, then SHK, then another CKR. Use the intention of scrubbing your energies in all levels of your aura for higher mental clarity and stability. Step through the CKR. Level 1s create a giant shield or sheet of Reiki in front of you (same intention as before) and step through your creation. Your energies are now clean and we can move on to the next step. Ideally you will feel lighter and more clearer.
Our trigger is gone, our energies are cleansed, now it’s time to give ourselves a full Reiki session. If you start to get panicky, acknowledge it , thank it for it’s presence, then send it along. This will be hard! Reiki is here to help support us through the panic attack.
When you’re back to a space of peace, test yourself. If you’re trigger doesn’t set off another attack, then analyze why you went through the attack in the first place. Don’t judge yourself. Just allow your thoughts to drift to the reasons behind the panic.
If it is too hard to contemplate right now, it’s okay, take a bit more time to come back to yourself. Just remember, Reiki will help calm and support you. At some point you still need to address the underlining issue so that it doesn’t continue to affect you. Take out a notebook and journal the panic attack experience. Allow yourself to cry when you need to. Allow yourself to stop when you need to. Don’t force anything. You’ll know when you’re done because a sense of peace over the experience will wash over you.
What are your strategies when panic strikes?
